Medicine is an incredible tool. Medicine can and does save lives. In some cases, medicine is necessary. But medicine is not the answer if you have an autoimmune or chronic illness.
Medicine alone will not heal you.
I am on medicine. I take methotrexate once a week. At this point in my health journey I need medication. Maybe I always will. I am hopeful I can get off medication eventually, but for now it is a part of my life. And although medicine has definitely helped me, I know the lifestyle changes, the mindset shifts and the conscious choices I make daily have a much greater impact on me and how I feel than my medicine does. If I tiptoe into foods that are not healthy for me, or if my daily stressors get too big, it’s not the meds that save my ass.
Yes, being on the medication helps me. It does not fix me.
When I don’t take care of myself, I feel the ramifications of those choices. Yes, being on the medication helps me. It does not fix me.
So what else decides how you get well?
What are you eating that your body cannot process? What are the chemicals in your household cleaners, your makeup and your body wash doing to you? What thoughts are you thinking that are slowly killing you?
Medication alone will not cure your autoimmune disease. I wish it were that simple. I’ve seen far too many people rely on medication alone only to have their disease worsen, develop side effects from the medication or gain new autoimmune conditions while on medication. It’s got to stop!
This isn’t anti-medicine. It is a call to wake up and take responsibility for your health. What changes can you make for a bigger difference in your healing?
